Response to Media – That’s Natural Complies But Believes in Constitutional Rights for Plant Based Medicine

That’s Natural Corporate Statement:  We are excited about the opportunity to address the FDA’s Warning Letter by complying to their warning letter taking down the requested links to peer-reviewed journal articles on our site and social media. We have deleted our Facebook Page, our Twitter Page, and have taken down our Customer Testimonials as well as the other cited articles from the Warning Letter from the FDA #513302.

From CEO Tisha Casida – This is the opinion of Tisha Casida and not that of That’s Natural Marketing & Consulting.

I am also excited about the opportunity to educate and empower consumer’s with pertinent information regarding cannabinoids that can benefit their health and wellness.

The FDA only approves ‘drugs’.  To be able to create and patent a drug – the molecule must be synthesized (at this point in time, thank God, it is impossible for companies to patent naturally occurring plants and naturally occurring compounds).   The CBD molecule that any large pharmaceutical company would have patented and approved by the FDA is going to be synthesized (not naturally derived) – that is the only way they can stop other companies from being able to ‘create’ something similar.   When companies patent a synthesized version of a molecule like CBD – they make it impossible for small producers like That’s Natural to be able to create anything that says “CBD” on it – even though our CBD and other cannabinoids are naturally derived and not a synthesized version of the CBD molecule.  This will also stop individuals from being able to source naturally plant-derived cannabinoids like CBD – this is a dangerous proposition for free people.

Cannabinoids like CBD are found in many plants beyond cannabis/hemp – CBD (and other cannabinoids) can also be found in: echinacea, electric daisy, liverwort, black pepper among others.

The Department of Health and Human Services has a patent (Patent #6,630,507) on cannabinoids, creating some hypocrisy among government agencies.

The patent’s abstract (via Google –   “Cannabinoids have been found to have antioxidant properties, unrelated to NMDA receptor antagonism. This new found property makes cannabinoids useful in the treatment and prophylaxis of wide variety of oxidation associated diseases, such as ischemic, age-related, inflammatory and autoimmune diseases. The cannabinoids are found to have particular application as neuroprotectants, for example in limiting neurological damage following ischemic insults, such as stroke and trauma, or in the treatment of neurodegenerative diseases, such as Alzheimer’s disease, Parkinson’s disease and HIV dementia. Nonpsychoactive cannabinoids, such as cannabidoil, are particularly advantageous to use because they avoid toxicity that is encountered with psychoactive cannabinoids at high doses useful in the method of the present invention.”

Over the past 40 years, there have been over 20,000 journal articles on cannabinoids and their potential positive effects for disease – you can find many of these on the government website – the National Institutes of Health (NIH). These are peer-reviewed journal articles from researchers with the knowledge of what cannabinoids can do for people’s Endocannabinoid System – the applications are immense.  As a company, we think it is our first amendment right to publish links to government-supported media (NIH) where peer-reviewed journal articles exist.  It is taxpayer money that pays for many of these studies and for the ability to see these studies on this website.  In these journal articles, you will find claims made by researchers about the applications of cannabinoids, for example:

“Antitumor activity of plant cannabinoids with emphasis on the effect of cannabidiol on human breast carcinoma.” –

“Cannabinoids Modulate Neuronal Activity and Cancer by CB1 and CB2 Receptor-Independent Mechanisms.” –

“Anticancer effects of phytocannabinoids used with chemotherapy in leukaemia cells can be improved by altering the sequence of their administration.” –

“Cannabis and Cannabinoids for Chronic Pain.” –

Here we have both a government agency (DHHS) with a patent on cannabinoids for their use as neuroprotectants and a government agency (NIH) with peer-reviewed studies that talk about the applications of cannabinoids – it is hypocritical for the FDA to only support a synthesized version of cannabinoids (from pharmaceutical companies) but not ‘allow’ for people to seek out alternative, natural, and non-synthesized versions of cannabinoids that may benefit them as well.

That’s Natural grows only hemp products – our farmers are regulated by the Colorado Department of Agriculture per the 2014 Federal Farm Bill.  The DEA has been taken to court twice by the Hemp Industry Association (HIA) over the naturally occurring cannabinoids that exist in hemp – the Hemp Industry Association has won both times.

Hemp Industry Association v. Drug Enforcement Administration, 333 F.3d 1082 (9th Cir. 2003)

Hemp Industry Association v. Drug Enforcement Administration, 357 F.3d 1012 (9th Cir. 2004)

That’s Natural sources its CBD-rich hemp oil products from local producers – supporting farming and local/biodynamic agriculture.  We have thousands of customers across the country who have experienced an improvement in their quality of life.  We ask that people stand up for their natural and constitutional rights to consume plant-based medicine.

That’s Natural believes it is individual’s natural and constitutional right to consume non-psychoactive cannabinoids (like CBD) from the hemp plant, or any plant for that matter.  Anything that comes naturally from a plant should never be able to be taken away from the people.  People have a right to grow and consume plant-based medicines without the approval of any government agency.  If the plant (echinacea, electric daisy, liverwort, black pepper, hemp) is non-psychoactive with no known negative side effects – regulatory agencies in the federal level of government should have a hands off approach.  There are bigger problems (opioid epidemic – thank you FDA-approved prescription drugs) for them to focus on.

That’s Natural will comply with the FDA’s request to remove certain verbiage, including the cited peer-reviewed journal articles that we have found on the NIH site, from the website and social media.  We ask for common sense when it comes to medicine.  All free people have a right to experience health and wellness from naturally derived cannabinoids.  We should not HAVE to only take FDA-approved synthesized drugs.  We should be able to experience natural plant-based medicine in its truest form – food IS medicine.  That’s Natural!

In Peace, Love, and Liberty,
Tisha Casida, CEO
