To understand why CBD works the way that it does, we must first understand the endocannabinoid system (ECS). The National Institutes of Health explains the ECS as, “a recently discovered signaling system comprising the cannabinoid CB1 and CB2 receptors, their intrinsic lipid ligands, endocannabinoids and the associated enzymatic machinery.”
The ECS is responsible for regulating many systems within our body and is closely tied to our immune system. In order for our body to maintain homeostasis, our bodies must produce endocannabinoids (natural chemical signals) which interact with the cannabinoid receptors mentioned above. If we experience pain, mood swings, hunger, memory, etc… it is believed to be because of a lack of endocannabinoids. By ingesting cannabinoids, or applying them topically, it is believed to be helpful in balancing these levels.
Fatty Acid Amide Hydozylase (FAAH), an enzyme in our body, often breaks down, causing endocannabinoids to diminish in our systems. In short, CBD helps prevent FAAH from breaking down. Because endocannabinoids help to maintain homeostasis, CBD’s ability to increase the number of endocannabinoids in our bodies, becomes paramount.
A different study from the National Institutes of Health explains that the endocannabinoid system is “intimately involved in tissue healing in the face of inflammatory conditions, correlating clinically with prevention and treatment of inflammation-mediated pain.”
Using CBD topically has been found promising because of the many symptoms people have been relieved of. A third study, has found that most users find regular, consistent applications of CBD most beneficial in providing an analgesic effect that significantly reduces localized discomfort. CBD not only was found to reduce inflammatory responses and desensitize one’s pain receptors, but it was also found beneficial for cramps, headaches, and psoriasis.
The beauty of using topical products is you have full control over where it is applied! Very specific areas can be targeted, and very specific conditions can be treated.
Each person has an endocannabinoid system, which is fueled by a variety of cannabinoids and terpenes. Because our products have these cannabinoids and terpenes, they are known to be full spectrum products. These full spectrum products help provide an entourage effect.
