Posttraumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD) is arguably one of the worst forms of anxiety. The Nebraska Department of Veterans’ Affairs (NDVA) states that around 5.2 million American’s each year suffer from this disorder. The NDVA also states that the most common traumatic events associated with PTSD are rape, combat exposure, childhood neglect or abuse, physical attack, or being threatened with a weapon – and understandably so. Approximately 30% of people that have served in America’s military experience PTSD – with about 50% of women experiencing it.

As unfortunate as all these statistics are, the even more unfortunate news is that most of these men and women don’t seek treatment, are told there isn’t treatment, or are given treatment that isn’t truly effective for them. That may all be about to change.

The Journal of Psychiatric Research published a study showing the impact that CBD can have on PTSD. In the study, they subjected rats to a cat and measured the activity in different parts of the brain (hippocampus, frontal cortex, amygdaloid complex and dorsal periaqueductal gray). Repeated use of CBD was given and was found to prevent prolonged anxiogenic effects promoted by a single predator (cat) exposure.

So, in conclusion this study found that:

“Repeated CBD administration prevents the long-lasting anxiogenic effects observed after predator exposure probably by facilitating 5HT1A receptors neurotransmission. Our results suggest that CBD has beneficial potential for PTSD treatment and that 5HT1A receptors could be a therapeutic target in this disorder.”

This study was quick to point out CBD’s effectiveness on anxiety as a whole, and then later discussed its impact on PTSD specifically. For those millions of people struggling with PTSD, this study appears to show an alternative form of therapeutic treatment.

Because our products are full spectrum, and contain a variety of cannabinoids and terpenes it is believed to have a more powerful response than using just one of the cannabinoids at a time. Each person has an endocannabinoid system, which is fueled by these cannabinoids and terpenes. The combination of these compounds help to provide what is known as the entourage effect. Here at That’s Natural we strive to provide the most pure, potent, and trusted products possible – something we have been doing for over 10 years. We even provide 100% traceability of where our hemp comes from. For more questions regarding our CBD products, please visit our Questions and Answers page.
