Gut Health – Cannabinoids and the Endocannabinoid System

Digestive Health V1

You may have heard of ‘the gut’ being your body’s “second brain”, or at least felt how much your mood and emotional well-being is affected by how your digestive system operates.  Our gut microbiota, consisting of about 100 trillion cells and about 160 species, is at the forefront of how we feel.  And emerging evidence shows that our gut microbiota is intertwined with the Endocannabinoid System (ECS).

Humans’ bodies, through the ECS, are pre-wired with cannabinoid receptors.  Endocannbinoids, which are bioactive lipid-based hormones made endogenously in our bodies – influence many of our physiological functions – like pain sensation, inflammation, muscle control, energy balance, stress responses, mood, metabolism, energy balance, appetite, even intra-ocular pressure.  Phytocannabinoids, like CBD, interact with the receptors, hormones, and enzymes in the Endocannabinoid System.  Phytocannabinoids are found abundantly in the cannabis, or hemp, plant.

The increased amount of cannabinoid receptors in both the digestive system as well as immune system will continue to inspire more research for how phytocannabinoids, like CBD from hemp, can positively affect gut health.  At That’s Natural, we know the importance of feeling good, and know how much your ‘gut’ can play into that.  We hope you will research, learn more, and try our premium line of CBD-rich hemp products that have 100% traceability – grown and regulated in Colorado.
